RPI implements high-impact projects that translate research into practice and support national infrastructure:

  • Borehole Disposal System (BDS) for Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources (DSRS)

A flagship project providing a safe, cost-effective disposal solution for DSRS in Ghana. Supported by the IAEA and donor partners (notably Canada), the project includes:

    • Site characterisation and geophysical investigations
    • Engineering design and operational safety assessment
    • Conditioning and storage of Category 3–5 DSRS
    • Development of a comprehensive safety case and quality management manual
  • Food and Water Safety Monitoring
    • Radioactivity testing of imported and exported food products (milk, meat, fish) in collaboration with the FDA and the Customs Division
    • Radiological assessment of drinking water sources to ensure public health and compliance with international standards
  • Environmental Monitoring and NORM Assessment
    • Characterisation of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) in oil, gas, and mining sectors
    • Radiological impact assessments and contamination investigations
  • Consultancy and Technical Support Services
    • Radiological safety audits and environmental impact assessments
    • Support for licensing, regulatory submissions, and emergency preparedness planning
    • Commercial training and advisory services for industry stakeholders
