
Prof. Stephen Inkoom is a Deputy Director and Chief Research Scientist at the Radiation Protection Institute under Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.
He is a Research Scientist with over eighteen (18) years of experience in radiation protection and medical physics practice. He joined the RPI in 2006 as an Assistant Research Scientist and rose through the ranks to his current grade. Before becoming the Deputy Director , Prof. Stephen Inkoom was the Manager for the Radiation Protection Training and Consultancy Centre. He is also an Associate Professor of Medical Physics, School of Nuclear & Allied Sciences (SNAS), University of Ghana.
Prof. Inkoom holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Master of Philosophy in Medical Physics, University of Ghana, and PhD in Medical Physics in 2014 from University of Ghana (UG), through a sandwich programme between UG and University of Crete, Greece with support from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Ghana Government.
Prof Stephen Inkoom has served as the Project Coordinator for the Norwegian Partnership Programme for Global Academic Cooperation (NORPART) Ghana-Norway Collaboration in Medical Physics, Radiation Protection & Radiography Education and Project Scientific Consultant (PSC), IAEA Project RAF9064 – Improving the Capabilities of Member States for Radiation Protection of Member States.
He has supervised several PhD, Masters and BSc. student research/thesis and provides mentorship and guidance to many young scientists/researchers. He was also a visiting Lecturer at the Applied Physics Department, National University of Science &Technology, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Aside these, Prof. Inkoom also served as an internal and external examiner of several Universities in Ghana and Africa. He is a certified Medical Physicist with a Professional license from Ghana Allied Health Professions Council since 2014.
Prof Inkoom has participated in many International and National Technical Meetings and Expert Missions, Training Courses, Workshops, Conferences and Seminars as a Resource Person and Participant. He is a member of several national and international professional associations. He is also the Secretary General, Federation of African Medical Physics Organizations (FAMPO), member, Education and Training Committee of International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) and the General Secretary of the Ghana Association of Radiation Protection, affiliate of International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA).
in addition to the above, Prof. Stephen Inkoom has authored and co-authored several articles in international and national peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and contributed to drafting and reviewing of IAEA TECDOC Series.
